As an author, I am proud of my first book: Brave Green World, which I co-authored with Claire Asher, a free lance scientific communicator, under MIT Press. It has sold over three thousand copies and it has been translated into French and Italian. I am working on my second book, and a kid’s book.
As a scientist, I’m interested in the intersection of computation, non-equilibrium physics, additive manufacturing and biological systems. I believe that we can construct a form of in materio computation that will lead to a novel form of non-equilibrium additive manufacturing. Since I left academia I work on this in my spare time. I have several ideas for a public academy of science, so that anyone in the world can contribute to and publish science free of charge, not just tenured professors at higher education institutions. As a US greencard holder, a British citizen and Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts, I am an advocate of deliberative democracy. Put simply democracy is a simple process for identifying pain in society and fixing it. Such a process is a lot easier when you listen to people. As a musician, I’ve been in one band or other since I was 18. Right now I jam in my neighbors barn across the street! A little blue grass band. It’s a lot of fun.
